Australia to ban online gambling with credit cards
The Australian government will introduce legislation to parliament later this year to ban online gambling with credit cards, following a parliamentary committee inquiry that recommended the move
The Australian Labor Party has announced plans to make it illegal for betting companies to allow people to use credit cards when gambling online.
Legislation to implement the ban will be introduced to parliament later this year, and it will not apply to lotteries.
A 2019 survey found that 81% of people supported some kind of credit card ban.
The move is designed to bring online gambling into line with other services where credit cards are not allowed.
Financial Counselling Australia welcomed the plan but said the exclusion of lotteries from the ban created a loophole.
