Australian Capital Territory Government Plans Hefty Restrictions and Possible Ban on Sports Gambling Ads
The ACT government aims to take action against "pernicious" sports gambling ads, including a possible ban, due to undue harm to the community
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government is considering legislating strict restrictions and potentially an outright ban on sports gambling ads due to the harm they cause to the community.
ACT attorney general Shane Rattenbury said the territory may act unilaterally if the federal government does not take action to reduce harm.
The ACT is exploring implementing a similar regime to South Australia, which imposes a total ban on all gambling advertising between 4 pm and 7:30 pm.
Federal crossbench MPs Monique Ryan and Rebekha Sharkie have added their names to the growing list of politicians calling for federal government intervention.
