Belgium court rejects legal challenge to gambling advertising ban
Belgium's Court of First Instance of Tournai has dismissed a legal challenge brought by a consortium of sports teams and gaming operators against the impending gambling advertising ban
A consortium of sports teams and gaming operators in Belgium has had their legal challenge against the upcoming gambling advertising ban rejected by the Court of First Instance of Tournai.
The court ruled that the Royal Decree implementing the ban was lawful and could proceed as planned.
The ban, set to take effect on July 1, prohibits most forms of gambling advertising across various media channels.
While the ban has faced criticism from the industry, the minister of justice, Vincent van Quickenborne, hailed the decision as a proportionate measure to protect vulnerable individuals from the negative impact of gambling advertising.
