Brazil's sports betting tax allocation proposed by Minister of Sport
The Ministry of Sport in Brazil has proposed allocating and collecting tax revenue from sports betting with a rate of 15 to 16% on gross gaming revenue
The Brazilian Sports Minister, Ana Moser, has proposed a tax rate of 15 to 16 percent on gross gaming revenue, with her ministry being responsible for collecting tax and allocating it to public agencies and sports bodies.
Football clubs have opposed the proposal, arguing that they should receive at least 4 percent of the betting tax for image and athlete rights. The Brazilian Congress will consider the proposal on Friday, May 5th.
The Ministry of Finance and Minister for State Planning and Budget Responsibilities have also reached an agreement to establish a new Betting and Lottery Secretariat to oversee sports betting in Brazil.
