Charlotte County in Florida is taking action against local businesses that are operating illegal slot machines or gambling devices. The county is working with the Florida Gaming Control Commission's Division of Gaming Enforcement to enforce the law.
Under Florida Statutes section 849.15, these machines can only be operated on tribal property or within pari-mutuel facilities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Any local business found in violation of this law may face criminal sanctions, including up to 5 years in the Florida State Prison and a $10,000 penalty per machine.
The sheriff's department is urging residents to report any suspected illegal gambling machines or devices to the Florida Gaming Control Commission or by calling (850)-895-8125.
Illegal gambling can have serious consequences for both businesses and individuals, and the crackdown by Charlotte County serves as a reminder to follow the law and avoid participating in illegal activities.
