Daily Fantasy Sports classified as illegal gambling in Germany
German regulator Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) has classified “certain forms” of daily fantasy sports (DFS) as illegal gambling in Germany, to protect German players from addiction
Germany's Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) has deemed some forms of daily fantasy sports (DFS) to be illegal gambling in the country.
The decision was made after GGL reviewed several forms of DFS and found they could be classified as illegal gambling under Germany's Fourth State Treaty on Gambling.
GGL CEO Benjamin Schwanke said fighting illegal gambling is an important consumer protection issue and can only be effective if all other authorities involved, such as law enforcement agencies, pull together.
A "well-known" DFS provider stopped operating in Germany after the hearing.
