Denmark blocks record 82 illegal gambling sites in 2022
Danish regulator Spillemyndigheden collaborated with Facebook to combat illegal gambling, which is increasingly being organized via Facebook groups
Denmark’s regulator Spillemyndigheden has teamed up with Facebook to combat illegal gambling, which is increasingly being organised via Facebook groups.
The regulator reported that it had blocked a record 82 unlicensed sites in 2022, following on from the 55 blocked in the previous year. While the regulator noted that the illegal market appears to be growing, it is ultimately limited and the increasing number of blocked sites reflects the regulator’s increased focus on the unlicensed sector.
Spillemyndigheden is also collaborating with Google to combat illegal gambling. The regulator has encouraged citizens to document any illegal gambling activity with pictures, videos and links to websites, in order to help with its supervision.
The regulator has also found that unlicensed offerings are advertising to those registered for the Danish self-exclusion system ROFUS, in breach of the Gambling Act, which aims to protect vulnerable people from developing gambling addiction.
