Hungary opens sports betting market with new licensing process
Hungary's gaming regulator SZTFH implements new technical measures for online gambling in response to new Gambling Act amendments
The Hungarian gaming regulator has implemented technical measures, including early cash-outs and safer gambling features, as part of amendments to the country's Gambling Act, in response to the liberalisation of the sports betting market.
Requirements for operators include having at least five years of experience offering licensed online gaming in a European Economic Area state and a HUF10m (approx. EUR 25,000) application fee.
The regulator has so far only issued licences to state-owned former monopoly Szerencsejáték Zrt and three Hungarian land-based casinos. The new regime was launched on 1 January 2023.
