The Illinois Legislature has voted to extend the ban on online betting for in-state college sports for another year.
Although people in Illinois can still place sports bets on in-state college teams at land-based sportsbooks, online betting on these events will remain prohibited until July 1, 2024.
The amendment was included in a larger bill amending environmental laws, and Governor JB Pritzker has the option to veto it within 60 days. In 2022, Illinois bettors wagered $1.4 billion on college sports, according to a report from the Illinois Gaming Board.
