IMG Arena sues rival data provider over unauthorized use of football match data
IMG Arena alleges that Stats Perform used scouts to obtain European football match data it was not entitled to, leading to a loss of revenue of at least $1.6m
Sports data provider, IMG Arena, is taking legal action against rival data provider, Stats Perform, over allegations of using scouts to obtain information from European football matches it had exclusive rights to.
IMG Arena alleges that Stats Perform used the data for financial gain, causing IMG Arena to lose at least $1.6m in revenue.
IMG Arena signed exclusive deals with 19 European football associations and federations last year, which allowed them to broadcast up to 8,500 matches each season.
In addition to legal action, IMG Arena is calling for the industry to address the issue of unauthorised data usage.
