Ireland's Department of Justice to back gambling bill
Ireland's Department of Justice supports the Gambling Regulation Bill's progress, which could see all forms of promotional activity banned
Ireland’s Department of Justice has pledged its support for the Gambling Regulation Bill, which would establish a regulatory body for gambling in the country, as part of its 2023 Justice Plan.
The bill, which was published in December 2022, aims to create a robust regulatory and licensing regime for the Irish gambling sector. If passed, the regulatory body will be known as the Irish Gambling Regulatory Authority.
The bill also suggests a potential ban on all forms of promotional activity, and prohibits the use of free bets by operators to induce players to gamble. The Department of Justice will support the bill’s movement and implementation in 2023.
