The Maryland State Board of Elections fines the Sports Betting Alliance $48,000, its largest fine ever, for failing to comply with disclosure requirements during the 2020 election
The Maryland State Board of Elections has imposed a record-breaking fine of $48,000 on the Sports Betting Alliance for failing to comply with disclosure requirements during the 2020 election.
The Sports Betting Alliance, representing online gambling sites DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, and Fanatics, violated the condition of publicly disclosing expenditures of $10,000 or more within 48 hours.
Jared DeMarinis, director of candidacy and campaign finance for the board, emphasized the importance of timely disclosure to ensure informed choices by voters.
The Sports Betting Alliance attributed the penalty to a filing error and promptly rectified the mistake.
