Minnesota House speaker indicates insufficient time to pass sports betting legislation in current session
Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman has stated that the current legislative session does not have enough time to pass sports betting legislation
Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman has expressed that there won't be sufficient time during the current legislative session to pass sports betting legislation, indicating that the issue won't be addressed this year.
Hortman explained that due to the bill's multiple committee requirements, it would be challenging to allocate the necessary resources to move it forward before the session ends.
Although efforts were made to legalize sports betting through bills such as SF 1949 and HF 2000, they faced opposition and failed to gain the required support.
However, there is optimism that discussions will continue in 2024 to find a solution that satisfies both the tribes and racetracks in Minnesota.
