Netherlands to ban online gambling ads
Dutch Cabinet plans to ban most ads for online gambling services from July 1, except for targeted ads for legal and non-addictive users
The Dutch Cabinet will ban advertising for online gambling services that do not target legal gamblers and are not a high risk for addiction starting on July 1.
The ban includes radio and TV commercials, outdoor billboards, and will heavily restrict online advertising. Gambling companies must prove that at least 95% of their advertising reaches people 24 or older and vulnerable groups are not seeing the ads.
The ban aims to protect vulnerable groups, especially young people, from high-risk games of chance. Sponsorships tied to sports clubs will end on July 1, 2025, and TV programs and events by July 1, 2024.
