New South Wales sets up panel to oversee gambling reform

The New South Wales government has established a 16-member panel to oversee gambling reform in the state

The New South Wales (NSW) government has established an independent panel to guide gambling reform in the Australian state, including overseeing a planned trial of cashless gaming.

The 16-member panel, chaired by former NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing commissioner Michael Foggo, will also recommend an implementation roadmap for future gaming reforms.

The panel's duties will include producing recommendations on the use of a AU$100m harm minimisation fund, expanding the self-exclusion register, and supporting exclusion schemes with facial recognition technology.

The panel is required to submit a report to the government by November 2024.

In addition to the panel's work, the government will review the ClubGRANTS scheme, which has not been formally assessed since 2013.
