NSW Treasurer open to reconsidering controversial casino tax
NSW Treasurer willing to reconsider casino tax as The Star announces job cuts
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has criticised a controversial casino tax that was expected to raise AUD 364m a year, which could be reconsidered, he suggested.
His comments followed the announcement by The Star that it was cutting 500 jobs and weighing options for the business with an investment bank. The company had already written down the value of its Sydney casino by AUD 988m.
The tax rate has already caused The Star problems, and Mookhey said he had not seen any evidence that the tax had been properly developed.
