Oklahoma House passes sports betting bill
Oklahoma House of Representatives approves sports betting legislation, allowing tribes to offer both retail and mobile sports wagering.
The Oklahoma House has passed House Bill 1027, which would permit tribes to add sports betting to their existing gaming compacts with the state.
The bill, which would allow tribes to offer retail and mobile sports wagering, is now headed to the Senate committee process.
However, there is no consensus yet among leaders of the 35 tribes that operate gaming in Oklahoma.
Gov. Kevin Stitt supports legalizing sports betting, saying that it would bring regulation to a market that currently operates in the shadows, without protections for the customers.
The bill's author, Rep. Ken Luttrell, says legal sports betting would add about $9 million a year to the state budget.
