Paddy Power fined by UKGC for marketing to self-excluded customers
The UK Gambling Commission has imposed a fine of £490,000 on Paddy Power and Betfair's parent company for sending push notifications with promotional offers to self-excluded customers
The UK Gambling Commission has fined PPB Counterparty Services Limited, trading as Paddy Power and Betfair, £490,000 for sending push notifications to self-excluded customers, in breach of licensing conditions and social responsibility obligations.
The commission found that Paddy Power's mobile app sent promotional offers to customers who had voluntarily self-excluded, violating regulations that require operators to prevent marketing materials from being sent to self-excluded individuals and promptly remove their details from marketing databases.
The commission emphasized the importance of robust systems to prevent such breaches and urged other operators to learn from this case.
