Parimatch Suspends Ukraine Operations After Sanctions
Parimatch, one of the leading sports betting operators, has announced the suspension of its operations in Ukraine due to sanctions imposed on the company by the country's government.
Parimatch has suspended its operations in Ukraine following new sanctions imposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The sanctions imposed on 287 companies, many of which are betting entities, and 120 individuals were implemented by Presidential Decree No. 145/2023, following a decision from Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
In response, Parimatch immediately suspended its Ukraine operations and is seeking a legal refund mechanism for its customers. All partnerships with the company have also been suspended, and staff contracts will end. Parimatch accused the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of "illegal violations" and called on Zelensky to verify the NSDC's decision, adding that it had paid UAH485m in combined license and taxes payments in 2023.
