State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro (LOTERJ) grants first sports betting accreditation license in Brazil
The State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro (LOTERJ) has made history by becoming the first company authorized to operate online sports betting in Brazil
The State Lottery of Rio de Janeiro (LOTERJ) has published its first contract for the accreditation and authorization of public lottery services exclusively through virtual means and on a competitive basis.
The contract, valid for five years, allows LOTERJ to offer fixed odds sports betting related to real sports-themed events.
The agreement, signed between LOTERJ's president Hazenclever Lopes Cançado and the representative of Rede Loto, Paulo Roberto Melo de Castro Nogueira, makes LOTERJ the first state lottery in Brazil to authorize sports betting through accreditation with the Federal Government.
The contract enables online access via personal devices, mobile applications, web platforms, VLTs, POS, and Sports Betting Terminals. Rede Loto, headquartered in São Paulo, will pay a fixed fee of BRL$5 million ($1 million).
The contract also outlines requirements such as geolocation restrictions, data security, customer service, and job opportunities for rehabilitated or disabled individuals.
LOTERJ's president emphasizes the historical milestone and positive impacts for the State of Rio de Janeiro, including the expansion of jobs. He also anticipates interest from other companies applying for licenses in Rio de Janeiro's sports betting market.
