UK government plans to cap bets for young online gamblers
New laws will limit the amount young online gamblers can bet and tax gambling firms to fund addiction treatment in the UK
The UK government is reportedly planning to introduce new laws that would limit the amount that young online gamblers can bet, while taxing gambling firms to fund addiction treatment. The maximum bet on online slot games is expected to be capped at between £2 and £15, with under-25s limited to £2.
The proposed white paper, which represents the biggest shake-up of the industry in more than two decades, is also expected to introduce tougher affordability checks to prevent customers gambling beyond their means. The Betting and Gaming Council, which represents gambling companies, has expressed concerns about a blanket 1% tax on all firms.
